(Rightallegiance.com) – A tragic incident at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Georgia resulted in the deaths of two Delta workers and left another person injured early Tuesday morning. The accident took place at Delta TechOps, specifically in the facility’s wheel and brake shop, according to John Laughter, Delta’s Chief of Operations and President at TechOps.
While official details surrounding the incident remain scarce, sources informed FOX 5 Atlanta that a tire exploded as it was being removed from a plane. No further information regarding the condition of the injured individual has been released at this time.
John Laughter expressed his sorrow in a statement, confirming the involvement of three TechOps team members in the tragic accident. “I’m deeply saddened to share that three TechOps team members were involved in an accident that took place early this morning in Atlanta TOC 3, Dept. 391 – Wheel & Brake Shop.
Tragically, two of our team members involved passed away, and one other team member was seriously injured,” Laughter stated. He also emphasized that Delta is providing full support to the families affected and is actively investigating the incident to understand how it occurred.
In a separate statement, Delta Air Lines reiterated their commitment to working with local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. “The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3),” the statement read. Delta has assured that they are offering complete support to the families and colleagues during this extremely challenging time.
Atlanta Mayor Andrew Dickens also conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased Delta workers and confirmed that investigative efforts are ongoing at the scene. “I offer my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased Delta employees,” Mayor Dickens wrote on social media. “My thoughts are also with those who were injured, and I hope for their swift and full recovery.”
