(Rightallegiance.com) – A tragic incident unfolded at a park in Memphis, Tennessee, over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to six others during a large block party, according to local police.
The Memphis Police Department reported that the violence occurred at Orange Mound Park on Saturday evening. Upon arriving at the scene around 7 p.m., officers discovered two men deceased, both of whom had suffered gunshot wounds.
During a press conference, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis revealed that initially, 14 people were believed to have been hospitalized due to the incident. However, this number was later corrected to six following clarification that some victims had been counted more than once. “We believe the error occurred with several victims being reported multiple times,” the police department shared in a social media update.
Three of the injured were rushed to local hospitals in critical condition, and as of midnight, one individual remained in critical status, while another had been released, the police further updated.
The gathering, which drew between 200 and 300 attendees, was reportedly unpermitted. “Preliminary information suggests that the block party was not permitted,” stated Chief Davis.
Currently, no suspects have been detained in connection with the shooting, and police believe that the gunfire involved at least two shooters. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome.
