Deputy Saves 1 Year Old Trapped In Hot Car

(Rightallegiance.com) – Bodycam footage captured a dramatic rescue by a Florida deputy who broke a car window to save a 1-year-old baby locked inside. This happened outside a Walmart in Palm Coast around 5 p.m. on May 20, as reported by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).

When deputies arrived, they found a man and a woman standing by a Nissan Altima. The man explained that he had put the baby in the car and then realized the doors were locked with the keys inside. The child had been in the car for about eight to ten minutes by the time help arrived.

The deputies noticed the baby was sweating and seemed to be in distress. Deputy Christian Harrison quickly decided to break the car window to rescue the child. Although the mother protested, saying “No, no, no,” Harrison insisted, “I have to. She’s been stuck in there.”

Harrison used a tool called shatter balls to break the back window of the passenger side. After clearing away the glass with his baton, he safely got the child out. Paramedics checked the baby, who was thankfully unharmed.

Sheriff Rick Staly used the incident to remind parents about the dangers of leaving children in cars, especially when the engine is off. “Even if it doesn’t feel that hot outside, heatstroke can happen quickly. If it has a heartbeat, don’t leave them in your car,” Staly posted on Facebook.

During the incident, deputies also issued a traffic citation to the man for having an unassigned tag on his car. This citation was not related to the baby being locked in the car, according to FCSO’s statement to Fox News Digital.
