(Rightallegiance.com) – In her recently released memoir, Uptown Girl, supermodel Christie Brinkley shares a harrowing account of a 1994 helicopter crash she survived during a heli-skiing trip in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. Brinkley attributes her survival to a small pouch of soil from El Santuario de Chimayó, a revered Catholic pilgrimage site in New Mexico, which she carried with her during the ill-fated flight.
The crash occurred when the helicopter, carrying Brinkley and five others, including her then-husband Richard Taubman, abruptly lost altitude and plummeted approximately 300 feet. Brinkley recalls the terrifying moments leading up to the impact, during which she focused her thoughts on her daughter, Alexa Ray, repeating her name like a mantra. Miraculously, all passengers survived the crash, though they sustained various injuries.
Brinkley believes that the Chimayó soil, known for its purported healing properties, played a role in their survival. She had visited the shrine two weeks prior to the accident and felt compelled to bring some of its “holy dirt” with her. On the day of the crash, sensing unease, she sprinkled some of the soil inside the helicopter before takeoff.
Reflecting on the incident, Brinkley expressed a renewed appreciation for life and love, stating, “I think that this world is full of magic and miracles.” Her experience underscores the profound impact of faith and hope in the face of life-threatening adversity.
