(Rightallegiance.com) – The University of Austin (UATX), often dubbed America’s first “anti-woke” university, has successfully completed its inaugural academic year, marking a significant milestone in its mission to champion free speech, classical education, and ideological diversity.
Founded by a coalition of prominent figures including journalist Bari Weiss, venture capitalist Joe Lonsdale, and historian Niall Ferguson, UATX was established as a response to what its founders perceive as a growing intolerance for open discourse in traditional higher education institutions .
The university’s first cohort comprised 92 students, nearly half of whom hail from Texas, with approximately one-third being female. These students were offered full-tuition scholarships, funded by substantial donations totaling around $200 million from notable donors such as Jeff Yass, Harlan Crow, and Len Blavatnik .
UATX’s curriculum emphasizes classical liberal arts education, with programs in economics, politics, history, English, creative writing, and data science. The institution prides itself on fostering an environment where students and faculty can engage in open debate without fear of censorship or retribution .
Despite its early successes, UATX faces challenges, including the pursuit of full accreditation and the establishment of a permanent campus. Currently, the university operates out of temporary facilities in downtown Austin .
As UATX looks ahead, it aims to expand its student body and solidify its place in the higher education landscape as a bastion for free inquiry and academic freedom.
